Various DOT Bridge and Roadway Projects: BFI, WFI, ALDOT, SCDOT, and NCDOT SSI and PDA Testing

CETS expertise includes driling, sampling, analyses and preparation of GDOT BFI, WFI, Soil Survey reports. In addition, pile dynamic analysis (PDA/CAPWAP) or drilled shaft load testing using O-cell tests combined with CSL or TIT were handled extensively by our geotechnical staff for GDOT, VDOT, ALDOT, SCDOT, NCDOT and FDOT.

Shopping Center in Fairburn, Georgia

Geotechnical Engineering Investigation and Foundation Recommendations

The proposed shopping center was designed as a one-story structure surrounded by parking lots and drainage systems. CETS performed strategic tree clearing and SPT borings including undisturbed Shelby tube sampling for a consolidation test in the laboratory. Upon finishing all field and laboratory tests, a report was prepared including subsurface conditions and foundation design and construction recommendations. A track mounted All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) drilling rig and a SANY SY35U Skid-steer were used respectively for SPT drilling and strategic tree clearing for this project

Kimball Bridge Road Wall #7

Kimball Bridge Rd MSE Wall #7, Alpharetta, GA - Geotechnical Engineering Investigation and analysis including calculations for external stability and global stability. MSE Retaining Wall #7 along the western boundary of the proposed widening of Kimball Bridge Road is about 382 feet long with varying heights between 10 to 17 feet (see picture below). CETS performed three (3) SPT borings, laboratory tests and provided a Wall Foundation Investigation (WFI) Report including MSE strap lengths, external stability and global stability analyses.

Waters Rd, Alpharetta, GA - Pedestrian Bridge

The proposed pedestrian bridge is a single span bridge, about 30 feet long x 5 to 8 feet wide and running along the western boundary of Waters Road over a creek. A gas line exists within the bridge footprint. Performing geotechnical investigation at the creek without damaging any utility was challenging. CETS performed soil borings, collected soil samples, conducted laboratory tests and prepared a report including foundation design and construction recommendations.

Tru Hotel, Commerce, GA

The project site is about a 2-acre lot that included soft soils extended to about 40 feet or more below the ground surface. A four-story hotel building (about 200 feet x 50 feet) was designed, supported by shallow spread footings in soils that were improved using aggregate piers. The parking lot and the rest of the northeastern areas of the site are supported by a 480 feet long MSE block wall which is reinforced with geogrid. CETS was involved with soil compaction tests, inspection of geopiers, observation of geopier load testing, monitoring of MSE wall construction includng geogrid placement, soil backfilling and compaction, footing investigation, and concrete and rebar inspection by ICC certified inspectors.

Summit Crossings, Atlanta, GA - Environmental Site Assessment (Phase I)

Summit Crossings Apartments in the city of Atlanta went through a property transaction for which due dilligence environmental assessments were required. CETS performed a Phase I environmental site assessment following ASTM E 1527 Method in a highly urban area within the city of Atlanta.

Training for Phase I and Phase II site assessments on GDOT Bridge Projects

CETS provided training course on how to perform Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments to a local consulting firm in Atlanta in 2020-21.
